Following the Christmas recess, the House of Representatives wishes to hold a debate on the independence of the research institute WODC. The cabinet therefore sent a letter regarding the review of WODC studies prior to the General Consultation on Coffeeshops of 20 December last.
In response to the reports of 6 December, it has been indicated that the 2013 study on the Private Club and Resident-criterion for coffeeshops and the 2014 study International Law and Cannabis (van Kempen I) will be closely examined regarding scientific research standards, for which an external research committee will be established under the chairmanship of mr. Overgauw. The WODC protocol will also be reviewed, and a reporting point for (former) employees of the department and external parties will be set up. Furthermore, a complaints committee led by prof. Verhulp will investigate how the specific WODC whistleblower complaint was handled.
The letter sent by the minister to the House is attached as a PDF.
