We represent 165+ affiliated coffeeshops in dialogue with municipalities, national government and other authorities.

For 32 years we have worked towards workable, consistent and legally sound policy — so that individual coffeeshops are not exposed to disproportionate administrative and legal risks in licensing, supervision, enforcement and day-to-day operations.
National policy development is connected with local practice. Further professionalisation of the coffeeshop sector is seen as a necessary condition for a future-proof coffeeshop policy.
Organised locally and nationally
Coffeeshop operators are organised at the municipal level and within a national association structure. We are in direct contact with 165+ coffeeshops across 40+ municipalities throughout the Netherlands.
Local chapters
Coffeeshops cooperate within local chapters with their own meeting structure. They focus on municipal files such as coffeeshop policy, licensing, enforcement and administrative developments — in direct contact with local government, politicians and civil servants.
Embedded in the wider business landscape
Coffeeshops are fully-fledged hospitality and SME businesses. We therefore actively seek cooperation with umbrella organisations representing SMEs, hospitality and retail entrepreneurship — such as MKB-Nederland, Royal Dutch Hospitality (KHN), INretail and the Dutch Payments Association — to firmly position coffeeshops within the regular business landscape.
Through these channels we work on recognition of coffeeshops as regular hospitality businesses, on access to payments and banking services, and on a level playing field in regulation, taxation and enforcement.
We also participate in the Working Group on Effective Euro Payments (WEE), a task force of the Social Consultation on Payments (MOB) of De Nederlandsche Bank. From that position we put coffeeshop access to regular payments and banking services on the agenda at the highest level.
