Amsterdam is positive about an experiment with regulated cannabis cultivation, and on 8 November 2017, the Amsterdam city council expressed its support for participation in the national experiment via a motion.
Mayor van Aartsen has informed Minister Grapperhaus of this in writing. Amsterdam cannot meet the set condition — enforcing the resident criterion — in view of the negative effects on public order and safety. The Mayor's response was presented for notification during the AZ Council Committee meeting last Thursday, 1 February (agenda item 16).
